This Shipwrights Double Bevel Masting Axe (Circa 1910) was made by L. & I. J. White Company. Founded by brothers Leonard & Ichabod Jewett White, the company was a prominent 19th and early 20th-century American manufacturer of high-quality edge tools, including axes, adzes, and chisels, operating from Monroe, MI, and then Buffalo, NY, known for their robust tools and patented designs. They were key players in the edge tool industry, supplying everything from timber framing axes to specialized coopering tools.

This axe is in great condition considering its age with only the minorest mushrooming on the poll. It has a fantastic patina and would be a standout piece for those interested in vintage ship building tools and nautical history. It weighs 4 lbs. 11 oz. and measures 11" in length and has a 6” width at the bit edge.
