The Douglas Axe Manufacturing Company, established by the Hunt brothers in East Douglas, Massachusetts, around 1798, became a prominent maker of quality axes and edged tools, growing to ship products globally and even winning awards at world's fairs, known for its craftsmanship, using local resources, and eventually being acquired by the American Axe Co. in 1897, leaving a legacy of iconic tools with distinctive markings, though the original company ceased operations then.

This antique Douglas single bevel hewing axe head is in fantastic condition with a crisp stamp, untouched patina and near perfect edge makes it an standout piece for anyone interested in vintage edged tools and logging history in New England.

It weighs 6 lbs. 12 oz. and measures 9-7/8" in length and has a 8-1/2” width at the bit edge.
