Antique Collins & Co. Hartford Legitimus Crown and Hammer Fireman’s Axe Head – Early Fire Tool

$139.30 $199.00

Before hydraulic rescue tools and power saws, American firefighters relied on heavy forged tools like this Collins Legitimus fireman’s axe to force entry into burning buildings, open roofs, and tear through walls during overhaul. This authentic Collins & Co. Hartford example is a surviving piece of that history.

Offered for sale is an authentic antique Collins & Co. Hartford Legitimus Fireman’s Axe Head made by one of America’s most respected edge tool manufacturers.

The Collins “Legitimus” trademark was introduced in the mid-1800s as a guarantee of authenticity and quality, helping distinguish genuine Collins tools from the many imitations appearing on the market. This example retains the desirable Crown & Arm & Hammer trademark along with the COLLINS & CO. HARTFORD and CAST STEEL WARRANTED markings.

Originally designed for firefighting service, this heavy-duty tool was built for forcible entry, roof work, demolition, and overhaul operations. Today it makes an excellent display piece for collectors of antique firefighting equipment, early American edge tools, or Collins memorabilia.

The head has an attractive, untouched patina with honest wear from age and use. The factory markings remain visible and readable. It measures approximately 12-1/8 inches long, 4-7/8 inches across the bit, has a 2-1/2-inch eye, and weighs 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description and accurately represent the condition of the axe head. Feel free to message me with any questions before purchasing. Sold as-is. No returns.
